Post Nationals Post Mortem

Now that the post-mortem is over, the team can return to full speed ahead.  To recap the last couple of weeks:  The Ballroom Medley placed 6th in Division I at Nationals, finishing second to Provo High in the High School Ballroom Formation competition, but breaking into Division I was the real achievement for the weekend.  The Latin Medley on the other hand also got into Division I, but was the only high school to do so and consequently is the National High School Latin Formation Champion.  Both medleys did very well and we are very pleased with the performances of the students.

Quickstep for Kindness and KUTV

This morning the WHS Ballroom Dance Company appeared on KUTV (local channel 2) for a short interview about our entry in the Quickstep for Kindness Contest.  As a result of being chosen as finalists the folks at DorĂ© in conjunction with Yellow Sky Publicity arranged for our team to appear on the 2News AM program.  You can view the video here and leave some feedback comments--like how much you love out team and how we're your favorite ever! Better than ice cream!  Okay, maybe not that much...

Though we ultimately did not win the competition, the connections created though the process are far more important and valuable and will serve to better our dancers and expose them to new experiences and people, and of course opportunities to perform.

Come back and check the blog regularly--we will be adding a few bells and whistles.

Quickstep for Kindness

As you should be aware we are a finalist in the Quickstep for Kindness contest sponsored by DSI and Dore.  There is the possibility of some extra duties associated with that--we have been contacted by their publicist and one of the local TV stations has expressed an interest in the team and the Quickstep for Kindness video we submitted.  We provide you with details as they come available, but this is an exciting development for the team!

Medley Rehearsals

Varsity:  Keep an eye on the calendar regarding Medley rehearsals--times are subject to change!  Be sure you allot the proper time for rehearsals along with your school work.

State Dancesport Championships

As you are aware we are co-hosting the State Dancesport Championhsips with Timpanogos High School this year.  Parents should have already received an email from Becci Anderson regarding their duties.  Students will be have the opportunity to sign up for duties like runners, etc, but where we really need the help is in setup and strike.  We have not yet had official word, but more than likely we will be setting up on Friday morning, although it is possible that we could have Thursday night to do so.

The real trick here is that we need to have the comp taken down Friday afternoon by 2:30 and everything stored to be set back up Saturday morning early.  The only complication is that Varsity has a performance Friday night for the Eagle Mountain Stake Valentines Dance, so it will probably be way too late to drive to Orem to setup after that, so it seems that we will be going early Saturday to setup.

This may seem like a bit of a hassle, but competitions are a good opportunity to work and are a great fundraiser as well, and we will be splitting the proceeds with Timpanogos, so we will take on an equal share of the setup, running and strike of the competition.

One final note: You should have turned in your entry forms already, but if you have not, get it done immediately.
